The HSFTOOLS HF96 took the top spot. It
booted fastest at 7.74 seconds, read the 14°F frozen steel target exactly,
came within 0.6°F on ambient concrete, and stayed within 2.2°F on the 440.2°F
hot steel — an unusually consistent accuracy record for a $166 camera. Its
display also earned a 2.0 rating in the wall-detail comparison, behind only
the far more expensive HSFTOOLS F2W.
For a tighter budget, the AMPBANK H128 at about $133 is hard to beat: it tied
for second overall at 4.9, booted in 8.2 seconds, and was nearly perfect on
both steel targets at 0.1°F off hot and 0.1°F off cold. If display quality
matters most, the HSFTOOLS F2W stood alone — the best wall-detail rating at
1.5 and a first-place tie on the space-heater scene, where it picked out the
heater grill in total darkness. At $299 it is the priciest of the three picks,
but its claimed 640x480 super resolution showed in every scene comparison.
A few results argue against assuming price equals performance. The $399
Thermal Master paired excellent image clarity with low-temperature readings
that were far out of calibration, and the $438 FLIR — precise on cold steel
at 0.1°F off — trailed cheaper cameras on resolution and contrast. The
Teslong missed the hot steel target by around 67°F even though it nailed the
reflective aluminum wheel, a reminder to check accuracy across the whole
temperature range rather than a single test. On the durability front, all 12
cameras survived a drop from about 6.5 feet without damage.
