Weighing air speed, air volume, noise, energy use and build quality together, the Dreo finished first of the twelve. Its case rests on efficiency rather than output: 5 W on the lowest speed and 32 W on the highest, where it still produced 476 CFM — 14.8 CFM for every watt, against 12.3 for the next best fan. It is also the only one that oscillates up and down as well as side to side, it shared the top build-quality rating of 1.5 with the Vornado, and it held to 15.1 degrees before tipping. At $120 it is the second most expensive fan here, and the payback comes from the electricity bill rather than the breeze.
For moving air on a budget, the Hurricane is the pick at $40. It made 567 CFM on high and returned the most air volume per decibel at both ends of its range — 9.7 CFM per decibel on low and 9.6 on high — and its remote was the only one with 360 degrees of signal coverage. It is a little noisy at 55.3 decibels on high. The Amazon Basics is the other strong value at $49, with 522 CFM on high, 9.5 CFM per decibel and the only remote in the test that also starts and stops oscillation. If raw output is the whole point, the Vornado moved more air than anything else at 757 CFM and tied the Pelonis for the fastest air speed at 18.5 mph, but it costs $130, draws 96 W, runs at 65.6 decibels and has no remote at all.
Two findings are worth weighing before buying. Stability varies far more than the spec sheets suggest: the Black & Decker held to 15.6 degrees and came through the drop test with its guard still attached, while the Simple Deluxe went over at 8.4 degrees and broke its motor housing on impact — and the Comfort Zone and the Dreo each broke a fan blade in the same test. The Vornado and the Pelonis both shrugged the impact off entirely. The advertised airflow figures also deserve scepticism: the Holmes is sold on 1,700 CFM and measured 445, the Aigostar claims 2,000 CFM and measured 488, and even the Dreo's 882 CFM rating came in at 476. The Simple Deluxe finished third on the numbers, carried there by its efficiency, but at $61 with no remote and the weakest stability of the group it is the hardest fan here to build a room around.
