switch-on against a 2,700-lumen rating, stayed the brightest at 30 seconds
(2,187) and at 15 minutes (1,216), earned the best possible comfort rating
plus top marks for both its focused and broad beams, and its 4,890 mAh
21700 cell was second only to the Wurkkos. Its lone weakness is runtime —
a light this bright drains even an excellent battery quickly. At $121 it
also undercuts the $210 Ledlenser, which measured well under half its
4,000-lumen claim, though the Ledlenser's endurance did earn it the best
total light output over a full discharge.
For less money, the $53 Wurkkos is the compact standout: 2,330 lumens up
front and the best measured cell in the test at 4,927 mAh. The $40 Amaker
is the pick among adjustable-lens designs, with top grades for brightness,
throw, and beam quality — just accept its 396.91 g on the headband. On a
tight budget, the $29 Lepro delivers a genuinely useful combined
focused-and-broad beam, and its cell beat its rating at 2,564 mAh. The
Princeton Tec deserves a nod as the honest one: made in USA, rated at only
550 lumens, it measured 700 and ran 9 hours.
The cautions are just as clear. Treat six-figure lumen claims as fiction —
the Zmoon's 100,000-lumen claim measured 812, and the Zmoon also ran
hottest at 154°F. Judge lamps on sustained output, not switch-on numbers:
the Coast
and Nitecore both beat their ratings early, then thermal protection dropped
them to 210 and 271 lumens by 15 minutes. And battery quality is half the
product: the BudK ships with a 1,217 mAh cell, and a low-grade replacement
cell sagged below 3 volts at just 4 amps — under 12 watts versus 42.5 from
the Nitecore cell — costing roughly 600 lumens when swapped into the same
lamp. Every lamp survived drops from up to 6 feet onto concrete except the
Zebralight, which cracked its battery case — a shame, since it held its
brightness better than anything else tested.
